“Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.” I Samuel 17:51

Verse 49 describes how David threw the stone and hit the target. The giant “fell upon his face,” and the Bible says that he was dead. (Notice that God had him fall “face down,” in a forced worship position!) However, David’s job was not finished. Verse 51 records the gruesome finale with David standing over Goliath and beheading him with the giant’s own sword.

There is something very FINAL about severing the head from a giant. There is also something very VISUAL about this act. When the head came off Goliath, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that he was dead!

This act speaks about “burning your bridges behind you.” When God gives you the faith for victory over your giant situation, do not look back. Pull it out by the roots. Take off its head. Crucify it!

The Apostle Paul says, in Galatians 2:20: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. . . .” When you kill the giant of your flesh, the living Spirit of Christ is made alive in you!

PRAY: “Victorious Lord, help me to understand the meaning of ‘crucifying my flesh’ so that I may be rid of giants and have the Spirit of Christ living in me by faith today.  Amen."
