Carrying the Fire (Introduction)

Pastor Phil Derstine 1-22-23

The Sword – The Word of God

·      Ephesians 6:17 “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

·      Jeremiah 20:9 His word is in my heart, like a fire shut up in my bones!”

·      Luke 4:8 “And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”

·      II Timothy 4:3 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; (4) And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

·      (Gr.) Mythos Myth (passed down mouth to mouth)

·      II Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,  for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

·      (NIV) “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”

·      Hebrews 4:12 (AMP)  “For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.”

The Fire – The Holy Spirit

·      Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?”

·      Acts 2:2 “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty  wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. (3) And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire and it sat upon each of them. (4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

·      Matthew 3:11 “I baptize you with water for repentance.  But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”

·      I Kings 18:39 “When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, The LORD – he is God! The LORD – he is God!

·      We need the Fire of God – so the world can SEE and believe!

Stay Hot for God – Carrying the Fire!

·      Revelation 3:15 “I know your deeds (works), that you are neither cold nor hot.  I wish you were either one or the other! (16)  So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

·      Hebrews 12:28 (NIV) “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, (29) for our God is a consuming fire.”
