“John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.” Luke 3:16

John the Baptist was baptizing with water, but Jesus spoke of a “Spirit” baptism that carried with it an anointing and “fire.” At salvation you were given a “measure” of faith (Romans 12:3), but God expects that measure to grow. He desires your infilling of His Spirit to grow to overflowing…that is, a baptism in His Spirit like the Upper Room experience at Pentecost. (See Acts 2:4.)

Receiving more of God in your life always requires your DESIRE. God does not force Himself on you. It begins with a deep hunger and thirst for God. “If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37b-38). He was speaking of a Holy Spirit baptism.

The disciples were filled with the Spirit as they persevered in worship and prayer, expecting to receive more from God. (See Acts 1:14.) The result was a noticeable increase in power and boldness to do the works of God. They began to preach the Gospel like never before and saw the gifts of the Spirit more evident in their lives. Ask Him today to fill you with His Spirit.

PRAY: “Father God, I yield myself to Your precious Holy Spirit for a greater infilling. Increase Your anointing in me. I desire Your spiritual fire. In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
