Feast of Trumpets

 

·      Joel 2:15 “Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly.”

·      Rosh Hashanah – Jewish New Year (Apples & Honey – Believing for a sweet new year)

o   Leviticus 23:24 “Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a Sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.”

·      Foreshadows the rapture & second coming of Christ

o   I Corinthians 15:51-52 “Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will be changed – in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.”

o   I Thessalonians 4:16-17 “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord.”

Gideon’s Trumpet – Judges 6 & 7

·      A story about how God SPEAKS to us, INSTRUCTS us, TESTS us, PROMOTES us….

 

1.    Somebody Prayed – 6:7

 

2.    God Answered – 6:10

 

3.    Commissioned by God – 6:12

·      New Name: “Mighty Warrior”

·      “Go in the strength you have”

·      “I will be with you… together.”

 

4.    Gideon’s Fleece – 6:36 (for confirmation)

 

5.    Tested by God – 7:2

·      22,000 men left for fear (2/3 went home!)

·      9,700 men failed the test (97%)

·      300 men were chosen by God! (Only 3%)

 

6. &nbnbsp;  God’s Battle Plan – 7:16

·      Trumpets, Torches, Empty Jars (Your VOICE, Holy Spirit FIRE, a BROKEN VESSEL)

·      II Corinthians 4:7 “We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”

·      II Corinthians 12:9 “My strength (power)is perfected in weakness.”

7.    Enemy destroyed themselves – 7:22

·      II Corinthians 10:4 (NIV) “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. (5) We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
