New Wineskins
Pastor Mike Gullatte sounds like (Gul-lat)

You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally.

1 Corinthians 9:24 Msg. Bible

Matthew 9:14 “A discussion about fasting.” Why don’t your disciples fast like John’s disciples?

Jesus uses three analogies/parables to explain “fasting” to John’s disciples.

1. A Groom at a Wedding. 2. New cloth on Old Garment. 3. New Wine into fresh Wineskins.

9:15 Jesus replied, “Do wedding guests mourn while celebrating with the groom? * Jesus compares himself to a groom at a wedding.

I am the bread of life. John 6:48

Why Fast? Old Testament - To make their voices be heard on high. …You will not fast as you do this day to make your voice heard on high. Isaiah 58:4 NKJV

New Cloth on Old Garment? But Soon, the Groom will be taken away, and they will fast.

Why Fast? New Testament - Revelation. 2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Acts 13:2

FASTING is like your vehicle getting a tune-up and oil change. It Gets rid of all the Gunk. It promotes longevity, maintains engine lubrication, and removes the sludge. And then, we receive fresh Oil/Revelation. Likewise, …New Wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved. Matthew 9:17 AMPC

But new wine (new revelation) is put into fresh wineskins (renewed minds), and so both are preserved (Retained, Sustained, and Maintained).

But new revelation is put into renewed minds, and so both are retained, sustained, and maintained.

23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new

man… Ephesians 4:23

23 And be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude, 24 And put on the new nature (the regenerate self) created in God’s image, Ephesians 4:23 AMPC

The Children of Israel’s Journey to their Promise. Now these became our examples… 1 Corinthians 10:6 NKJV

The Children of Israel’s Journey to their Promise. The good, the bad, the ugly became our example… 1 Corinthians 10:6 NKJV

Now, these things are examples (warnings and admonitions) for us not to desire or crave or covet or lust after evil and carnal things as they did. 1 Corinthians 10:6 AMPC

The Good 14 But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and in the end, they will come away with great wealth. Genesis 15:14 NLT

“…We entered the land you sent us to explore, and it is indeed a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey. Here is the kind of fruit it produces.” Numbers 13:27

The Bad & the Ugly - 28 “But the people living there are powerful, and their towns are large and fortified. We even saw giants there…”

Mesmerized by the PROBLEM and not the PROMISE.

Be Intensely interested by the PROMISE, not the PROBLEM.

…A land flowing with milk and honey. Here is the kind of fruit it produces.” But the people… Did they taste the fruit of the promise?

Taste your Promise! Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Psalm 34:8

Oh, experience and observe that the Lord is good;

Joshua Chapter 3. 40 years later - The Israelites cross the Jordan

4 Since you have never traveled this way before, they (Levitical priest) will guide you. Stay about half a mile behind them, keeping a clear distance between you and the Ark. Make sure you don’t come any closer.” Joshua 3:4 NLT

"Don’t go so fast that you outrun the voice of the Holy Spirit; it’s possible to be traveling so fast that you outrun your GPS.”

17 And there they stood; those priests carrying the Chest of the Covenant stood firmly planted on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan while all Israel crossed on dry ground. Finally, the whole nation was across the Jordan, and not one wet foot. (MSG BIBLE)

14 God made Joshua great that day in the sight of all Israel. They were in awe of him just as they had been in awe of Moses all his life. Joshua 4:14 MSG Bible

The very next day they began to eat unleavened bread and roasted grain harvested from the land. 12 No manna appeared on the day they first ate from the crops of the land, and it was never seen again. So from that time on the Israelites ate from the crops of Canaan. Joshua 5:11

No More Manna! Manna was “Just enough to get you by.”

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22 ESV
