
The Language of God (Pentecost Sunday)

Day of Pentecost
- Matthew 3:11 (John the Baptist) “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”
- Acts 1:4 (Jesus) "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. (5) For John baptized with water, but in a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
- Acts 2:1 “And when the Day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. (2) And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. (3) And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. (4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Baptism in the Holy Spirit
- Acts 19:2 “He said to them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? (6) “And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues and prophesied.”
- I Corinthians 12:7 “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”
- Manifestation Gifts: 1) Word of Knowledge, 2) Word of Wisdom, 3) Discerning of Spirits, 4) Gift of Healing, 5) Working of Miracles, 6) Gift of Faith, 7) Prophecy, 8) Tongues, 9) Interpretation of Tongues.
- Tongues – The Language of God
- I Corinthians 14:2 “He that speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not unto men, but unto God: for no man understands him, but in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.”
- I Corinthians 14:18 “I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.”
WHO is it for?
- Mark 16:17 “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my Name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues.”
- Acts 2:39 “For the promise is for you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
WHAT is it for?
- John 14:16-17 “I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever, …for he dwelleth with you and shall be in you.”
- Gr: Parakletos – helper, counselor, advocate, called alongside to help.
- Personal Edification
- I Corinthians 14:4 “He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself; but he that prophesies edifies the church.”
- Jude 1:20 “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, (21) Keep yourselves in the love of God…”
- Power to Witness
- Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
- To Help us Pray
- Romans 8:26 “The Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

HOW do I Receive?
- Repent
- Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
- Galatians 3:14 “That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”
- Ask the Father
- Luke 11:11 “If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? (12) Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? (13) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?”

- Acts 2:4 “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
- Thirst and Drink
- John 7:37 “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (38) He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”
- Psalm 81:10 “…Open thy mouth wide and I will fill it.”
- Job 29:23 “And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.”
- Psalm 119:130-131 “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. I opened my mouth and panted: for I longed for thy commandments.”
