Freedom 250: One Nation Under God
Freedom 250: One Nation Under God

Pastor Phil Derstine 7-5-26

Remember Our Foundation – Our Creator gave us our rights!

  • Psalm 33:12 “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.”
  • Declaration of Independence – Endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights”
  • Rights come from GOD… Government protects them, but only God gives them.
  • Acts 17:26 “From one man He made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. (27) God did this so that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any of us. (28) For in Him we live and move and have our being.”
  • God commanded Joshua to erect 12 Memorial Stones – “What do these stones mean?”
    • Joshua 4:24 “He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is powerful and so that you might always fear the LORD your God.”
  • America’s 250th Anniversary – What made America different?  Our dependance upon Almighty God!

Renew our Dependance – Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord!

  • America doesn’t just need a celebration – America needs repentance
  • II Chronicles 7:14 “If my people…”
  • Psalm 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds the house…”
  • King Asa – He trusted in God and had victories.  Years later… he trusted in alliances and had defeats. (It’s not how you BEGIN, it’s whether you continue depending upon God)
  • King Hezekiah – National revival, Passover restored, Temple worship restarted… One leader humbled himself and an entire nation changed.
  • “America will never be destroyed from the outside.  If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” – Abraham Lincoln

Reclaim True Freedom – The Son sets people free!

  • Freedom is more than independence… Freedom is transformation
    • II Corinthians 3:17 "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.    (18) But we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
  • John 8:36 “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
  • Luke 4:18 (Jesus) “God has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.”
    • Freedom from: sin, shame, fear, addiction, bitterness, hopelessness.
  • Prodigal Son – Real freedom began when he returned to his Father.
    • Galatians 5:1 “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”
  • Matthew 5:13-14 “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world…
  • Philippians 2:15 “Be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.”
  • Galatians 5:13 “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free.  But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.”
