Fire on the Altar

  • Leviticus 6:13 “The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.”
  • Hebrews 12:26 “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens. (27) The words ‘once more’ indicate the removing of what can be shaken – that is, created things – so that what cannot be shaken may remain.  (28) Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, (29) for our God is a consuming fire.”
  • Matthew 3:11 “I baptize you with water for repentance.  But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”
  • Acts 2:17-18 “And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:   And on my servants and         on my handmaidens, I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy."

 

When does the Fire fall? - I Kings 18 (Elijah)

 

1. Repair the Altar (repentance)

  • Acts 2:38 “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

2. Put flesh on the Altar (humility) 

  • Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which your reasonable service [your spiritual act of worship].”

3. Make a Sacrifice (sow seed)

  • II Corinthians 9:6 “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”

4. Pray for Spiritual Awakening (harvest)

  • I Kings 18:37 (Elijah’s Prayer) “Answer me, O LORD, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God,   and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

Esther's Story - Book of Esther

1. For such a time as this

  • Esther 4:14 “For if you remain silent at this time relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish.  And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?”
  • I Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light."

2. Believe that you can make a difference

  • Mark 9:23 “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”
  • Matthew 18:19 “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.”

3. Use your God-given Influence - Position, experience, talent, money, voice, vote…

  • Parable of the Talents
  • Matthew 25:1 “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”

4. Be willing to risk it all

  • Matthew 10:16 “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”
  • II Chronicles 20:17 “You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions, stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you…”
