Joy in the Journey (Mother’s Day)
Pastor Jannette Derstine 5-11-25
Psalm 16:11 “You make known to me the path of life: In your presence there is fullness of Joy: at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
- The Journey
- Starts with a destination in mind (prayer)
- Many unexpected turns
- Guided by God
James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
- JOY (def) – A feeling of great pleasure & happiness
3 Types of Joy in the Bible
- PUBLIC JOY – a shared experience with others
- It rises and falls with the live experience
- It’s temporary, quickly fades away (Num. 10:10; Deut. 16:15; Ezra 3:13)
- PERSONAL JOY – is experienced within oneself
- Not felt until “something” happens that aligns with your values and hopes.
- Deep sense of joy that lingers but fades away. (Luke 1:39-44; 2 Tim. 1:4)
- PURE JOY – is the spiritual fruit of a personal relationship with the Lord
- Rooted in His Word and cultivated by the Holy Spirit.
- Produces in us the ability to face circumstances with Joy.
- Holds us in place like an anchor in the storm.
- We cling to the promises in His Word.
- We trust that He will work everything out for His Glory.
- Trust yields a peace that passes understanding.
- Pure Joy has a place to root and grow…. It doesn’t fade away!
James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
- Perseverance: Continuing to work towards something even when it’s difficult or takes a long time.
John 15:11 (Jesus) “I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
- THE PATH OF LIFE
- FULLNESS OF JOY
